Umi is inspired by “The Burda” poem قصيدة البردة in praise of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh)
The name Umi (meaning illiterate) is to show the contradiction between the illiterate prophet and the poem written to praise him.
The original poem consists of 319 verses; however, the garment features 250-270 handwritten lines, which take 31-35 hours to complete.
The cut is inspired by the traditional Saudi Bisht, which is square-shaped, with the sides left unstitched to allow it to be worn as a shal in colder weather.
The material is high-quality, thick khaki linen (185 gms) on the outside and thin white linen on the inside.
